We love when you bring your little, and not so little, ones to church! Children, their squirms, and joyful noise, are a welcome addition to the worship experience. There is a Children's Corner in the Narthex where kids may play quietly during worship, and busy bags are available for use during the service. For more spirited play, there is a nursery upstairs across the hall from the Sunday School room where parents can supervise play.

Children's Church

Children's Church is provided for kids ages 3 and up by our Children, Youth, and Family Ministy Directory, Brittany Melton-Hill. Children's Church begins after the children's sermon during worship and takes place in a classroom, where kids can explore the week's lesson through song, story, and craft. In addition to Brittany, there is at least one other volunteer prersent. This year's curriculum is adaptaed from Illustrated Ministry's Compassion Camp program. The children then rejoin their families in the Sanctuary during the Passing of the Peace. Children are encouraged to join the congregation during the celebration of communion. It is God's table; all are welcome.

Family Faith Night

Family Faith Night takes place once a month and is led by Pr. Samm. During this time, people of all ages come together to share a meal, learn a story, and do a craft or activity. For example, we have baked communion bread together, welcomed visitors from community organizations, and completed service projects as a group. This is a time intended for intergenerational ministry and hopes to bring people of all ages together for a time of fellowship and learning.

Confirmation

Confirmation is offered for students currently in the 5th through 8th grade, with the Confirmation service typically taking place on Reformation Day of the student's 9th grade year. At this time, Pr. Samm is leading a class of about a dozen students from congregations in the Rocky Mountain Synod Metro West Conference and also participates in events through the Rocky Mountain Synod Faith Formation Network. The Confirmation group meets twice a month, once virtually and once in person.  Joining together with other area congregations offers a great opportunity for students to get to know members of other churches and form community in preperation of High School Youth Group events. This year's theme is focused on Lutheran History and Traditions and always incorporates issues of social justice and teachings on other world religions. If you have a student that is interested in being a part of the Confirmation program, please email Pr. Samm at pastor@highlandslutheran.org.
